artist statement

In search of peace ...

background

This work serves as a destination and focal point of an existing Zen garden ... where one is lured towards and asked to enter ... to step down onto Terra Australis.

It does in part represent a certain meshing together of two former works, namely brancusi's nest and chasm.

                         brancusi's nest, 2008                                                                                                                      chasm, 2005

acknowledgments

I wish to thank Gary and Julie, the patrons, for enabling the work through their generosity and trust. It is preciously rare for an artist to be invited to respond to such broader needs in people's lives.

Its realisation is much indebted to the skill and talents of James Gardner & Mark Spinks, master masons (click), and Hiro Shibuya, master joiner.
